“The art of debate is the art of thinking, speaking, and listening critically.”

In a celebration of intellect and eloquence, Mayor World School organised its much anticipated Inter-House English Debate Competition on 1st August 2024. The event provided a vibrant platform for the students of Grades IX to XII to showcase their debating skills and engage in thoughtful discourse on contemporary issues.

The esteemed judges for the event, the Principal, Ms. Divya Keni and Ms. Shubhangi Khosla, a distinguished alumna and English teacher at Mayor World School, presided over the competition, offering their invaluable insights and guidance. The debaters confronted two challenging topics, each demanding a deep understanding and a critical examination of current affairs. The first topic, “Make in India: Prospects and Concerns in the Contemporary Regime,” witnessed Dickens House arguing for the motion, while Keats House presented compelling arguments against it. The second topic, “Influence of Social Media on Election Campaigns and Results,” featured Wordsworth House speaking in favour of the motion, with Shakespeare House articulating the opposing viewpoint. It included four rounds- introduction, elaboration, conclusion and rebuttal.

Each house was represented by four articulate and well-prepared speakers, who demonstrated exceptional command over language and  persuasive skills.  After a series of intense rounds, Keats House comprising  Vanshika Dilawari (IX-B), Meir Singh Pandher (XI-A), Czar Kharbanda (IX-C), Vikram Singh Ahluwalia (XII-A), emerged triumphant.Wordsworth House attained the second position.

The highlight of the competition was the Best Speaker award, which was meritoriously earned by Jasmine ( IX-B) from Dickens house for her outstanding oratory skills and persuasive arguments.

In her closing address, the Vice Chairperson Ms. Neerza Mayor lauded the participants for their exceptional performances and encouraged them to continue honing their debating skills.
