“Freedom is not a gift bestowed; it is the heartbeat of a nation, the hope of its people, and the eternal flame kindled by its martyrs.” With this spirit, Mayor World School celebrated Independence Day with fervour and enthusiasm, weaving together music, dance, and heartfelt tributes to the Nation. On 14th August 2026, the School hosted an Inter‑House Singing Competition for students of Grades VI to XII. The event was adjudicated by Ms. Kamalpreet Kaur, a distinguished Punjabi singer, lyricist, and composer, who also serves as an English educator at the School, alongside Ms. Asha Nagpal, an eminent Educationist and Librarian. Keats House and Dickens House jointly secured the first position with their harmonious renditions of patriotic songs, while Shakespeare House claimed the second place with a soulful performance.
The celebrations continued on 15th August with an Inter‑House Dance Competition for students of Grades III to V. The Vice Chairperson, Ms. Neerza Mayor, the Vice Principal, Ms. Charu Trehan, and senior dignitaries presided over the function. The occasion was graced by the Guest of Honour, Dr. Sushma Chawla, a renowned gynaecologist, obstetrician, and motivational speaker.
The competition was judged by Ms. Aditi Mittal, an avid Kathak and Belly dancer, and Ms. Sahiba Makkar, an accomplished classical dancer and alumna of Mayor World School. The young performers infused the atmosphere with hues of patriotism, transforming the spirit of freedom into rhythm and movement. Their graceful steps and energetic choreography paid homage to the sacrifices of freedom fighters, celebrated the heritage of Indian culture, and embodied the unity that binds the Nation together. Keats House emerged victorious with an exquisite presentation, Dickens House secured the second position, and Wordsworth House attained the third.
The School Management extended heartfelt congratulations to the winners and lauded the commendable efforts of all participants. The convener, House Mistresses, Departments of Dance and Music, educators, and comperes were also appreciated for their contributions in orchestrating the vibrant programme. The celebrations concluded with a Vote of Thanks, followed by the National Anthem, leaving the audience inspired by the enduring flame of patriotism.
