Experiential Learning Takes Centre Stage at Mayor World’s Inter-House Competitions

Mayor World is dedicated to exploring innovative avenues in the field of education through Subject Enrichment Activities and Experiential Learning. To this end, the School organised an Inter-House Super Spellathon Competition for students of Grades III to V and a Science Quiz for students of Grades VI to VIII on 17th February 2025.

The Super Spellathon , orchestrated by the Department of English ,was meticulously designed to refine the students’ linguistic acumen, analytical prowess, and cognitive dexterity. The contest featured six exhilarating rounds, each crafted to challenge and inspire young minds. The competition commenced with Anagram Grand-Slam, a thrilling battle of wits where students unscrambled letters to form meaningful words. This was followed by The Literary Itinerary, a round assessing their comprehension of texts from their syllabus and their grasp of literary knowledge. Word Wizards, the third round, tested their expertise in synonyms, antonyms, and intricate word associations, pushing them to think critically about language.

The challenge intensified with Flexing Your Spellings, a round dedicated to pronunciation mastery and spelling accuracy, ensuring students refined their articulation skills. Expression Confession, one of the most engaging rounds, required participants to enact proverbs and idioms while their teammates attempted to decipher their meanings. The competition concluded with Patron’s Equation, a round designed to test students’ knowledge about their respective house patrons, adding an element of historical and institutional awareness. Adding to the excitement, a Tongue Twister Round was also introduced, challenging students to articulate tricky phrases with precision and speed, much to the delight of the audience.

The Inter House Science Quiz provided the students with the opportunity to put their scientific knowledge and critical thinking abilities to the test. The quiz encouraged intellectual curiosity and problem-solving skills, making it an equally stimulating experience.

The event witnessed an exhilarating contest among four talented teams, each representing the prestigious houses—Shakespeare, Dickens, Keats, and Wordsworth. Every team comprised three sharp-minded participants, carefully selected from different grade levels: one from Grade VI, one from Grade VII, and one from Grade VIII, ensuring a perfect blend of knowledge, strategy, and teamwork.

The competition comprised six rounds, each meticulously designed to assess the learners’ scientific knowledge, reasoning abilities, and practical understanding.

The competition began with the General Round, featuring a challenging question for each team. The second round, Experimental Knockout, required students to observe an experiment and answer the related questions. The third round ,Science in Daily Life, tested their ability to connect scientific concepts to real-world phenomena through visual prompts. In the fourth round, Scientific Word Search, the participants identified as many scientific words as possible within an image in one minute, earning one mark per word. In the fifth round,Picture Perfect, the students were asked to answer a question about an image within 10 seconds. The competition concluded with the sixth round , Fast and Furious, where teams answered rapid-fire questions , showing their speed and accuracy.
The results were announced by the Vice Principal, Ms. Charu Trehan, who lauded the participants for their dedication, competitive spirit, and passion for learning.

In the Super Spellathon, Shakespeare House represented by Aadya Mahajan (V E), Aaradhya Jagota (IV A), Aarav Gupta (V C), and Ravya Marwaha (III D) emerged as the champion, followed by Dickens in the second place.

In a thrilling display of intellect and scientific prowess, Keats House, comprising Naitik Sharma (VIII A), Khushi Kumar (VII B), and Parth Garg (VI D), emerged victorious, claiming the first position in the Science Quiz, while Wordsworth House showcased exceptional knowledge and secured the well-earned second place.

The School Management extended heartfelt congratulations to Department of English and the Department of Science for organising intellectually stimulating events . The day truly encapsulated the essence of experiential learning and subject enrichment, allowing students to expand their horizons whilst enjoying the thrill of competition. The event concluded on a jubilant note, with radiant smiles and a sense of accomplishment filling the atmosphere.
