“Diwali is not merely a festival of lights-it is a luminous reminder of our cultural inheritance, where every diya rekindles the wisdom of our ancestors.”

With this spirit of reverence and celebration, Mayor World School commemorated Diwali with great splendour on the 16th and 17th of October 2025. The two-day celebration was a vibrant expression of cultural pride, creativity, and togetherness, designed to instil in students , a deep appreciation for their traditions.

On 16th October, the School hosted two major Inter-House competitions that captured the enthusiasm and ingenuity of the students. The Inter-House Rangoli Competition for Grades VI to XII saw the four Houses viz. Dickens, Keats, Shakespeare, and Wordsworth, transform the designated school spaces into radiant displays of artistry. Using eco-friendly colours and decorative materials, the students created mesmerising rangoli patterns that were further enhanced by iridescent diyas and fairy lights. The competition was judged by the Vice Principal Ms Charu Trehan and the Special Educator Ms Pooja Arora. Dickens House, represented by Divnoor Kaur (VI-C), Badat Kaur Mand (IX-C), Eknoor Kaur Nijjar (X-A), and Prisha Sekhri (XI-B), emerged victorious with their exquisite design and teamwork.

Simultaneously, the Cooking Without Fire Competition for Grades III to V brought out the culinary talents of the young contestants. Judged by Ms Preena Sablok, the Headmistress of Mayor Galaxy, and Ms Pooja Arora, the event required each team to prepare both a sweet and a savoury dish. The students were evaluated on innovation, nutritional value, table layout, and presentation. Wordsworth House, comprising Vaidehi Madaan (III-C), Nikkhat Purai (IV-C), Nazakat Sahni (V-C), and Hunar Kaur Bains (V-D), won the competition. Special accolades were awarded to Shakespeare House for the Best Savoury dish, Dickens House for the Best Dessert, and Keats House for the Best Presentation.

On 17th October, the festive spirit reached its zenith as the students from Mayor Galaxy and Grades I to XII arrived in vibrant traditional attire, filling the School with laughter, colour, and joy. They enthusiastically participated in a series of inter-class competitions including Rangoli Border Making, Thali Decoration, Kalash Adornment, and Diya Decoration. Their creative endeavours were warmly appreciated by the Vice Chairperson Ms Neerza Mayor and the Vice Principal Ms Charu Trehan, who interacted with the students and shared in their excitement.

Among the many highlights, the Diwali Dioramas stood out for their exquisite craftsmanship and thematic beauty, captivating everyone with their storytelling and presentation. Potluck parties added a personal touch to the celebrations, as students shared homemade delicacies with their classmates, fostering a spirit of unity and joy.

The special assembly, organised by the students of Grade II, came alive with sonorous voices that echoed with merriment and rhythmic dance steps that radiated festive joy. Adding to the charm, the young learners of Nursery A and Nursery B confidently expressed their thoughts on the theme-“Why I Love Diwali?” Their innocent reflections and heartfelt words captivated the audience. The assembly also served as a meaningful platform to acquaint the little ones with the cultural and spiritual significance of the festival, fostering early appreciation for tradition and celebration.

Mayor World School’s Diwali celebration beautifully affirmed its commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals. The event was a radiant display of cultural pride, artistic expression, and collective joy, successfully amalgamating honour for heritage with creativity.
